The name of Baluran National Park was published in 1980. Previously this national park is better known as Baluran Wildlife Refuge. Baluran Wildlife Reserve was formed in 1937 and endorsed by the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies who was then the supreme leader of Indonesia. Before becoming a wildlife sanctuary Baluran region is already known as a natural habitat of many living things. That's why K.W. Dammerman suggested that the Baluran area be used as a protected forest in 1930.
